Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “önemsiz sindirilebilirler”) tanımlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine ilişkilanmasıyla oluşan gücük polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino asit lafıntısı ile başkası arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” veya peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (veya çok adetda polipeptit alt birimi çitndırır). Kök başkalık peptitlerin gücük, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi sırasında her amino asit, vesair amino asite temelli, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle ilişkilanır. Polipeptid konstrüksiyonsına katılan amino asitlerin her biri konstrüksiyonya peptid ilişkilarıyla ilişkilanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu sırasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir akarsu çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Yaklaşık bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Malum en uzun polipeptit, kestirmece 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda kâin “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine katılan amino asitlere lafıntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki lafıntı, bağ yapmamış, boydak amino grubu çitndırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin vesair ucundaki boydak α-karboksil grubu olan lafıntıevet C ucu adı verilir.
